Well,
this is an article I never thought I would have to write. Computer
ownership was just not something I thought people would get confused
over but, after overhearing a number of conversations last week from my
co-workers, I realized that quite a few people just don't know how cut
and dry this topic is.
This
article gives an overview of 'diseases' that plague the internet and
explains about 'spyware' 'adware' and 'malware'. It gives advice on how
to protect your computer from being infected by these ailments,
including some important tips on avoiding the problems caused by them.
The
IFCC (Internet Fraud Complaint Center) received over 200,000 complaint
submissions for 2004, an increase of 66.6% from 2003. The total dollar
loss from all referred cases exceeded 68 million dollars, an average
loss of $894 per complaint. There are many types of internet frauds
that exist including auction, email, foreign investment letters and
online dating. Here are some ways to identify a possible scam or fraud
that you may have encountered while surfing the internet.
Working
from home has its advantages, including no commute, a more flexible
work schedule and fresh coffee and home-cooked meals whenever you want.
But working from home while using a wireless local area network (WLAN)
may lead to theft of sensitive information and hacker or virus
infiltration unless...
You've seen it in the news - 40 million credit cards exposed!
With all the news about web sites being hacked and cyber
thieves stealing credit card numbers and other personal data,
it's no wonder that some shoppers are still hesitant to provide
payment information online. You don't have to be.
In
summary, the Data Protection legislation serves two purpose, firstly
limiting and controlling the people who are allowed to have and process
sensitive personal information, and secondly the prevention of
unauthorised access to that information. Here give some background and
defind some common security threats presented by computerisation.
Is
your data secure? Think again. Securing data is unlike any other
corporate asset, and is likely the biggest challenge your company faces
today. You may not see it, but almost all of your company’s information
is in digital form somewhere in the system. Find out how to make sure
you are secure.
There
are criminals who run scams on the Internet that attempt to get you to
reveal your private information. One of the most common types of scams
is called "Phishing."
Keeping
your network secure is becoming increasingly important as the number of
computer hackers continues to grow. This article gives the basics of
Network Security.
In
this particular scam, you get an email from "Personal Banking:
personalbanking@wellsfargo.com " stating that there may have been some
unauthorized access to your account and that you should click the link
and enter your account and verify some information. When you click the
link you are taken to a site which looks identical to the Wells Fargo
site.
Spam
email now has a new and more frightening variant, it's called phishing
and it has been made by criminals and hackers who aim at getting
unwitting consumers to reveal account numbers and passwords.
I
am the victim of an internet scam. It is very hard to write that
sentence, but it's necessary in order to warn my fellow clowns,
magicians and other entertainers, and to prevent them from being taken
for $2,800.00 like I was. Here is what happened to me, and how you can
avoid it.
June 19, MasterCard blamed a vendor of ALL credit card
providers called CardSystems Solutions, Inc., a third-party
processor of payment card data, as the source of loss of 40
million consumers credit card information.
The
article warns about the newest plague in the internet: phishing. It
describes how internet users can be deceived easily and how they can
protect their money.
IPv6,
Introduction
The high rate at wich the internet continualy evolves forced the
Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) to find IP solutions to handle
the grouth. Designed to handle the fast paced growth of the Internet,
the IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is the new version that will
replace the widely used IPv4(Internet Protocol version 4) which is
already obsolete.
Nowadays
more and more people are using a computer. A lot of them use it at
their work place, but an increasing number of computer users have also
discovered the need to have a computer at home. At the same time the
number of Internet surfers increased. This is a good thing because
people are realizing the advantages offered by the world of technology.
As soon as they discover this, they start using computers and the
Internet more and more, but at the same time not considering the
threats that are coming in from all sides. They should know that if you
don’t protect yourself, nobody will. These threats are now coming from
everywhere and they are growing in number and complexity. First threats
of this kind were the viruses. At first, viruses were not that harmful.
They were designed to perform a simple task, like flashing a single
message onto the user's computer screen. Also the spread rate was slow,
because not many people were connected to the Internet. But now the
majority of viruses are programs intentionally written to obstruct
with, or harm other programs or computer systems. And they are
spreading very fast.
Many
users on the internet have the same belief that their data is safe and
secure. By the end of 2005 it is estimated identity fraud will cause up
to 5 trillion dollars world wide. We, the users of the internet must
keep ourselves safe, secure and pay attention to security warnings. I
have compiled some good tools and tricks that will help keep you much
more anonymous and secure.
Encryption
and security software solutions created by independent software
developers are often MUCH better and cheaper than application created
by their corporate counterparts. Do you know which indie security and
encryption titles are considered the best?
You
may not realize it, but as you are surfing the web all sorts of details
are being left behind about your computer and where you have been. Most
of this information is used harmlessly in website statistics, but it
could also be used to profile you, or identify you as a vulnerable
target for an exploit.
The
Internet is a vast International Network of people and businesses – and
a place where people can make a fairly decent living. However, it is
also a place where certain unsavory characters can freely roam – to
take your dollars and run. Scams – the human mind can be either pure or
devious – and it is the devious mind that you have to look out for and
be aware of at all time...
Imagine
my surprise when I received a phone call from a friend who told me he'd
been the victim of a "spyware" attack that left him shaking at his loss
of privacy.
When
it comes to impeding scams and viruses there are three simple solutions
that basically require one be informed and use the tools available to
them.
